Pleated silk scarves by Senses Art Nouveau
Senses Art Nouveau is very proud to present
our new Pleated silk scarves collection.
Isabelle Leloup has just completed our collection of pleated silk scarves inspired by Venice and by the famous Venitian fashion tissues .
Technique
Each pure silk scarf is painted by hand and pleated with an artisan pleating technique which give a regular effect known as plissé. The edges are then embellished by hand with a rolled hemming and a special choice of coulored glass pearls.
The result is a superb and very elegant pleated silk scarf.
The pleated silk scarf is available for on-line shopping in 12 bright handdeyed colours.
History of Pleats in Fashion
Since antiquity men and women use to wear pleated fabrics.
In Ancient Egypt, the pleated kalasiris was mainly made in linen. Pleats were achieved one by one by hand and were reserved to the elite. The same pleasure for pleats was found later in Greece with the peplos and chiton made of wool and linen.
When at the end of the XIX century, Mariano Fortuny y Madrazo rediscovers the ancient pleats and launches the Delphos silk pleated gown is inspired by a famous greek sculpture : the charioteer of Delphi.
Since then, all major fashion designers, from Dior to Balmain have created faboulous models using pleats.
Nowdays the Japanese designer, Issey Miyake, has developed a special technique to pleat syntethic fibers and has brought the pleats in the XXI century with a contemporary taste.
